LinkedIn advert prices are set to increase as advertisers opt to spend less on X due to owner Elon Musk’s recent controversy, new data has revealed.

Speaking to The Financial Times, Outcast Vice President Leesha Anderson dubbed the current climate as “LinkedIn Season”.

She said: “Most have switched over to LinkedIn over the past year…A few weeks ago most of our clients were off X. Now they are all off X.”

The price increase comes as Musk, who rebranded the social media platform from Twitter, expressed agreement with a tweet containing a negative remark about Jewish communities, raising concerns of antisemitism.

However, when advertisers including Coca-Cola, IBM and Walt Disney decided to pull out from the social media platform, Musk told them to “go fuck themselves”.

This comes as X experienced a decline in ad revenue following platform changes impacting advertiser confidence, in response Musk drafted in Linda Yaccarino as CEO of the social media platform.

In December 2023, X added over 10 million users, Yaccarino revealed.

In a post on X she made the announcement, however, she did not elaborate on how many users were paying customers.

X, formerly Twitter, added over 10 million users in December, the social media giant’s Chief Executive Officer, Linda Yaccarino has revealed.

In a post on X, Yaccarino, who succeeded billionaire owner Elon Musk as CEO in June, made the announcement late last week, however, she did not elaborate on how many users were paying customers.

She also did not mention how the number compared to an average month.

This comes as Musk faced criticism last month after endorsing a post accusing Jewish people of pushing hatred against whites and supporting immigration.

The tweet read: “Jewish communities have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them.”

In response, Musk said: “You have said the actual truth.”

As a result of the backlash, major brands including Apple and Disney left the social media platform following claims X and owner Musk have encouraged anti-Semitism.

Alphabet Google X Wing drone deliveryAlphabet is set to begin trialling its drone delivery service in Finland – months after it began testing the service in Australia.

The drone delivery service comes from Wing, which ‘graduated’ from the Google X research and development organisation earlier this year. The small aircrafts are automated and capable of delivering food, drinks medicine, and other household items to consumers.

Wing is due to arrive in Finland in spring 2019, landing in its first European location. The company plans to use the Nordic nation as a marker for the rest of the world, highlighting the sometimes-problematic weather associated with Northern Europe.

“We’re excited to launch our drone delivery service in Finland in spring of 2019, which will be our first operations in Europe,” reads the Wing website. “Finns are internationally renowned for being early-adopters of new technologies, and we’re looking forward to working with the community and local businesses to find the best way to implement our services in the Helsinki area. Based on what we know about the winter weather in Finland, were pretty confident that if our drones can deliver here, they can deliver anywhere.”

According to the firm, its drones carry a total carbon footprint which is 22 times lower than traditional delivery, due to running off clean electric power and flying emission-free.

Project LoonAlphabet’s Project Loon will reportedly bring its balloons to Kenya in order to provide high-speed internet to rural parts of the East Africa nation.

Project Loon began life as a Google project back in 2013 and is now housed within Alphabet’s innovation lab, X. Through the project, solar-powered balloons are launched into the sky that are capable of providing remote areas with internet access, working similarly to a mobile phone tower.

Joe Muchera, Kenya’s information, communication and technology minister, told Reuters that Loon representatives were currently “holding talks” with telecoms operators in Kenya about deploying the technology – a statement which has since been confirmed by the project.

“The Loon team are still working out contracts and hopefully once that is done, we can be able to see almost every part of the country covered,” Muchera told the news publication.

“Connectivity is critical. If you are not online, you are left out.”

Last year, Project Loon used its balloons to help bring connectivity to the people of Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria.

Alphabet X ChronicleGoogle’s parent company Alphabet has introduced an independent business unit aimed at tackling cybercrime by helping companies discover and stop attacks before they can cause any damage.

The cybersecurity unit, named ‘Chronicle’ and founded out of Alphabet’s X moonshot factory, will be made up of a cybersecurity and analytics platform to help enterprises gain a better understanding of their own security-related data, and VirusTotal – the antivirus and online scan aggregator acquired by Google in 2012.

“We want to 10x the speed and impact of security teams’ work by making it much easier, faster and more cost-effective for them to capture and analyse security signals that have previously been too difficult and expensive to find,” said Stephen Gillett, CEO of Chronicle, in a Medium post. “We are building our intelligence and analytics platform to solve this problem.

“Add in some machine learning and better search capabilities, and we think we’ll be able to help organisations see their full security picture in much higher fidelity than they currently can.”

Chronicle is currently testing a preview release of its cybersecurity intelligence platform in an early alpha program with a number of Fortune 500 companies.

Google-Project-Loon.pngGoogle has taken balloon-powered internet ‘a step closer to reality’ as Project Loon, part of its X research lab, says it can now use AI to predict weather systems and keep its balloons where they ned to be.

Project Loon was created with the intention of providing internet connectivity to people in rural and remote areas in the world by using balloons taught to stay in a particular location.

“Project Loon’s algorithms can now send small teams of balloons to form a cluster over a specific region where people need internet access. This is a shift from our original model for Loon in which we planned to create rings of balloons sailing around the globe, and balloons would take turns moving through a region to provide service,” said Astro Teller, ‘captain of moonshots’ at X, in a blog post.

Back in September, Loon reported that, in its latest test, a balloon managed to spend 14 weeks in Peruvian airspace – making 20,00 altitude adjustments during its flight

Teller said: “Although our navigation algorithms can get even better, and we need to test them in many other parts of the world, this is a positive sign for Loon’s economic and operational viability. We’ll be able to put together a Loon network over a particular region in weeks not months, and it would be a lot less work to launch and manage.”
